A Dream That Reached the Stars
The true story of Liv Perrotto, the Shiba she drew in 30 minutes, and the promise Elon kept.
🐾 How Asteroid Was Born
Olivia "Liv" Perrotto was born July 28, 2010, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania — space-obsessed since she was tiny. At age 10, she was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive cancer. In early 2022, the Polaris Dawn crew asked her to design their zero-gravity indicator. She sketched a Shiba Inu in a spacesuit — inspired by Elon's dog Floki — in under 30 minutes. She named it Asteroid.
🚀 It Actually Went to Space
On September 10, 2024, Asteroid floated weightlessly aboard SpaceX's Dragon capsule during the Polaris Dawn mission — the first-ever civilian spacewalk, 700 km above Earth. The crew sent Liv a video of it floating in zero gravity. Her face lit up with pure joy. Proceeds from the Asteroid plush went to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

In January 2026, Liv's cancer returned aggressively. In her final months she never stopped dreaming — she traveled to Antarctica, flew in a fighter jet, and met heroes. She passed away on January 14, 2026, at 15, peacefully in her mother Rebecca's arms. On her nightstand: a notepad with 8 handwritten questions for Elon Musk. She never got to ask them.
